A blood test will tell about mental health

In the U.S., developed a method for accurate diagnosis of depression by a blood test. Previously, such a diagnosis the doctor could put only on the basis of personal interviews with the patient, and he, in many respects, had a subjective coloring.

Ridge Diagnostics Company, and researchers from Massachusetts General Hospital have developed an analysis based on the determination of nine biomarkers of depression in blood plasma. Thus, biomarkers are related to factors such as the interaction between the structures of the brain responsible for stress response, development and performance of nerve cells.

The analysis results include a formula by which calculate the probability that the patient is suffering from depression. This figure, called MDDScore, is within 1-100. Sensitivity of the test is 90%.
